Rosemary Rituals for Healing: Spiritual Benefits, Curandera Traditions & a DIY Sun-Infused Foot Soak

Plant Ally: Rosemary (Romero / Salvia rosmarinus)

Spirit + Science: Rosemary is a sacred herb used for centuries across cultures. Curanderas in Latin and Indigenous traditions use her in spiritual cleansings called limpias, sweeping heavy energy from the body and clearing emotional residue. She is used to protect against "mal de ojo" (the evil eye), support remembrance, and help call back lost energy. Linked to the sun, Rosemary is associated with vitality, heart healing, clarity, and strength.

On a physical level, Rosemary helps improve circulation, supports cognitive function, soothes inflammation, aids digestion, and encourages hair growth. She's grounding, energizing, and a powerful ally for both spiritual and physical wellbeing.

Honoring Rosemary in Curandera Traditions

In many Latin and Indigenous healing practices, Rosemary is more than just a plant—it’s a spiritual companion. Curanderas often bundle fresh Romero for limpias, brushing it gently over the body or burning it to release unwanted energies and restore balance. It's used to lift grief, protect the heart, and call back the spirit. In homes and healing spaces, Romero is placed near doorways or altars to guard the energy and welcome peace.

In my garden, Rosemary grows abundantly, and I use her in my limpia offerings—especially at this time of year. But Rosemary thrives year-round, and you can snip a little with love to bring into your daily rituals or culinary creations.
