This evening marks the first night of Día de los Muertos and the 2nd anniversary of our shop, Casa de Ritual, on Alberta Street. We’ll gather in a circle on the rugs and pillows, using our instruments and voices to create a rhythm of celebration. If you don’t have a drum, bring a rattle (I have plenty to share).
El Día de los Muertos is a sacred ritual that began over 3,000 years ago. The Aztecs were the first to honor this celebration, seeing death not as an end but as the beginning of life’s cycle. They didn’t grieve their dead—instead, they invited the spirits of their loved ones to return each year to celebrate their time on Earth.
You’re invited to bring a photo of an ancestor you’d like to honor, to place on our ofrenda in the center of the circle. You’ll take it home with you afterward.
Come dressed however you feel called—maybe with face paint, festive attire, or simply as yourself. All creativity is welcome, and comfort is encouraged.
The circle will be led by Yvonne and local shamanic practitioner Raina Imig.
Space is limited to 30. Please wear comfortable clothes.
