Sagittarius Season is a time of growth and renewal. Coming out of the shedding of things that no longer serve us and emerging like a butterfly from its chrysalis is truly what it is to embrace the medicine of The Archer. This mutable fire sign invites us to a whole new way of life, a rebirth into a new way of moving and interacting with the world around us. Temperance, the Tarot card associated with Sagittarius, embodies the sign’s passion for expansion, enlightenment and ability to build something bigger and brighter than yourself.
The timing may seem contradictory as we head into the darker months of winter–the time we prepare to get quiet and go inward as we dive into hibernation. We just came out of a Full Moon Eclipse in Gemini, a time to rest and reflect, to witness and sit with, and now we let Sagittarius be our guide, the flaming arrow that guides and shines from within.
This season is especially auspicious with a New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius. Jupiter, Sagittarius’ ruling planet, represents luck, expansion, and joy. Sagittarius represents healing, learning, vision, philosophies, travel, and freedom. It’s only appropriate we welcome this joyful and expansive fire sign than with candle magick!

Let Your Soul Shine & Follow Your Inner Flame
This intention behind this ritual is to practice it during the Sagittarius New Moon and the Solar eclipse phase on Monday December 14th. It can also be performed the day before, during or after the Sagittarius New Moon.
The practice should take about 20 to 30 minutes depending on what feels right for you. To begin, you’ll want to cleanse your space, calling upon your ancestors and guides using whichever toofeel right to you—cleansing herbs, candles, anointing, incense, essential oil diffusion, selenite wand cleansing, etc. to create your ritual container.
What You’ll Need
- A fire resistant surface
- White pillar candle
- Lighter or Matches
- Anointing oil (any oil you choose, like your favorite essential oil or our Turmeric Ginger Roll-On!)
- Carving tool (toothpicks are great)
- Journal and Pen
- Tarot Cards (Optional)
Let’s Get Started
To begin, you will anoint your candle by rubbing a small amount of the oil from the wick down to the base. Doing so mindfully infuses your intentions for the ritual into the candle. You can either choose to call things to you or burn away more of what no longer serves.
Now, get out your carving tools (anything that can get the job done safely and effectively will do) and carve in any words or symbols that represent what you’re hoping to manifest in your life. Think simple and to the point, but do be specific and intentional with the words you choose.
The ritual will truly begin when you light the candle!
Once the candle is lit, it’s time for your manifestation visualization and free writing. While gazing at the flame, visualize what you want to bring to life, what you want your life to look like. If possible, allow your candle to burn all the way down safely once your visualization is complete.
When you feel your visualization is complete, start your free-writing. Grab your journal and just write. Avoid stopping or pausing for too long to think about what to say. This exercise is about letting your subconscious spill out onto the page without edits from your inner critic or conscious mind. Let whatever wants to present itself come. When you feel the release beginning to a close, allow your writing to wrap up naturally.
Now reflect on anything that came to you during your meditation (visions, repeated thoughts, feelings) as well as revisiting what you wrote during your free writing session. Work with these themes as you move forward and through the next year and make a note to look back on them for the Flower Full Moon in Sagittarius May 26th of 2021.
