Using essential oils for aromatherapy is a powerful piece of any self care and wellness routine. Some of the most common ways to use essential oils and enjoy the aromatherapy benefits are with an oil diffuser, a topical roll-on, or in your favorite wellness serum. There is, however, a lesser known, but powerful way to receive the benefits of essential oils and that is through an essential oil inhaler. An essential oil inhaler allows you to receive the grounding and calming benefits of the plant you are calling in either on the go or in an at home ritual. The inhalers are simple to use, easy to store and bring peace wherever they are needed.
What is an essential oil inhaler?
An essential oil inhaler is a small vessel used to breathe in aromatic oils, often they are made of plastic. Our inhalers are made of aluminum, and inside there is a protected inner section that contains pure organic essential oils. Some inhalers use a cotton wick insert with just the essential oil. Within our inhalers is an inner glass vial and the essential oils are infused into Himalayan sea salt. The sea salt helps to cleanse the respiratory system and provides extra grounding benefits upon inhalation.
We offer two different essential oil inhalers which harness the benefits of terpenes from cannabis essential oil, and other organic oils. Our Calm Inhaler includes cannabis, cedarwood, frankincense, lavender, and orange essential oils, meant to bring a sense of grounding. The Clarity Inhaler includes cannabis, eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, and ylang ylang essential oils which facilitates a fresh and uplifting state of mind.
The best feature of an essential oil inhaler? You can bring the healing aromatherapy benefits with you in your travels or use it at home.
So, how do I use an essential oil inhaler?
Using an essential oil inhaler is very simple. Our inhalers simply have a cap that pops off. You then place the inhaler directly beneath your nose, pause, and take a deep, intentional breath. The key step is the intentional breath. The pause in your day will allow you to fully inhale the therapeutic healing energy of the oil, and will ground you with a moment of pause and calm.
While the usage of an essential oil inhaler is simple to start with, the best practice is to incorporate it into a wellness ritual. By incorporating the inhaler into a ritual, you will consistently receive the benefits.
Starting a Ritual
In today's hectic world, routines of self care can be hard enough to start. However, because of the hectic nature, they are more important than ever. Especially routines that ground, center, and promote peace and tranquility.
The easiest way to bring a sense of grounding to your day is to pause and make your breath intentional. This can be just stopping for a moment, wherever you are, and taking a deep breath. An intentional breath slows the world around you and helps you find your balance. With an essential oil inhaler, use the healing properties of the oils with this intentional breath. The aromas will begin to train your body and bring you back to a state of peace.
If you have some time and space, maybe a wellness routine that allows you to go deeper, you can definitely incorporate the inhaler into your ritual. In my wellness rituals I do a lot of meditation. To begin, I warm up a cup of tea and cleanse my space. Next I light a candle and then use the essential oil inhaler for the first few breaths to drop down deeper into the present moment. When I am finished meditating, I take a few more intentional breaths using the inhaler before continuing on. I'll usually pull an oracle or tarot card to finish my ritual.
When I'm traveling and don't have access to my usual tools, an essential oil inhaler is beneficial. You can keep it at your desk, in your purse or pocket for whenever you need it. Whether it's working, driving, spending the weekend with family or just enjoying the sunset, everyone can use a deep breath to ground. Using the inhaler helps bring you back into the moment. Deep breathes my friends!
Do I Have To Worry About Cannabis Essential Oil?
We mentioned that our inhalers contain cannabis essential oil. However, you don't have to worry about any psychoactive chemicals in our inhalers. They are free of THC and CBD. The inhalers only contain cannabis terpenes promoting calming and relaxation. Terpenes are associated with the smell of the plant and can be used to identify strains of plants. The cannabis plant itself has over 200 terpenes.
Benefits of Using an Essential Oil Inhaler
Simply by taking deep breathes through your nose, you receive the benefits of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is an ancient practice that has been used to relieve pain, induce sleep, and ease stress. It can also help to communicate to your brain that you are safe. These signals allow you to ground yourself and come back to present. Pausing during a stressful time to take a deep breath and inhale the essential oil, causes our muscles to relax, and allows us to refocus.
The plant terpenes present in our inhalers can even help relieve pain, reduce inflammation and anxiety, and uplift your mood.
How Long Does an Inhaler Last?
How long the inhaler lasts is variable depending on what inhaler you have and how often you use it. For our clarity and calm inhalers, they last well over 6 months and up to a year.
There are a few tips for making the inhaler last longer. First, is to always keep your cap on. This ensures that the inhaler doesn't lose any of the essential oils when it's not in use. Second, make sure you store the inhaler in a cool dry area. Essential oils diffuse easily and around heat can cause your inhaler to diffuse when not in use. Finally, protect the outside from too much external stress. Our inhalers have an aluminum outside which make them more durable, but with other inhalers, that might not be the case. You don't want the inner glass vial to break!
What to Look For In An Inhaler
When choosing an essential oil inhaler there are a few features to consider. First and foremost, which blend is calling out to you? Are you looking for a calming blend, uplifting blend, spiritual blend, etc.? Make sure to ask the apothecary or look into which essential oil blend best suits your needs.
With the inhaler itself, try to look for one that is refillable, durable, and recyclable. Our inhalers can be refilled so you can get the most use out of them as possible. Being conscious of the Earth and eliminating unnecessary waste is also something to consider when purchasing an inhaler.
